This strap is working out really well for me. I attached it to my EOS Rebel XSI camera and have never since felt the need to take it off for any reason.

Attaching the strap:

The strap attaches to the camera from the right shoulder strap loop and the tripod mount on the bottom. Once attached, you can still use a shoulder strap with it. There is a loop on the plastic component which screws on to the tripod mount. You attach one end of the shoulder strap to that, and the other end to the left loop on the camera.

You can still mount the whole thing on a tripod as well because the bottom component has a place for attaching the tripod. In short, it doesn't take away any of the existing attachment points which it now occupies.

How the strap feels and works:

The feel of it in my hand is really comfortable. The exterior looks like black leather and the interior has a rubbery texture so it is slip resistant.

It is very effortless to hold the camera in your hand with the aid of the strap. You just have to curl your fingers around the side of the camera and the strap keeps it secure in your hand. You don't need to grip it between your fingers and your thumb as you would if you didn't have this strap. This allows you to free up your thumb firstly, and secondly it allows more dexterity on your index finger for controlling the shutter release and the wheel. Since your hand is pretty much strapped on, the iso select button is harder to reach.

While the thumb becomes free to control the arrow keys and other buttons, it becomes quite easy to access all those buttons with one hand while your other hand becomes free to control the zoom/focus on the lens.

I can straighten my fingers, palm facing down, and let the camera hang from the strap vertically down while being supported from the strap going around the back of my hand without fear of the camera slipping and falling at all. It is slip resistant and feels securely fastened to my hand as if it was an extension of my hand.

I initially had a tendency to make the strap really tight and barely enough room to slip my hand in there and give me a snug tight fit. This in turn caused the thing to be uncomfortable as I was bending the wrist and overextending my thumb to reach the buttons. I find it much more comfortable if I keep it a little loose so that I can slip my hand easily into it and there's some room for my fingers and thumb to move, some breathing space if you will..

The construction of the product doesn't feel cheap or low quality. The black leather exterior actually looks quite nice. I did have one issue with it however. The plastic component which attaches to the tripod mount has a rubber surface which comes in contact with the bottom surface of the camera. If you screw on the item to the tripod mount too tight, the rubber contact surface tends to come off and stick to the camera, which is kind of low-quality.

I think this strap is an absolute must-have. It makes the SLR very effortless to operate with only one hand. For someone who will want to carry the camera in their hand for extended periods of time, for example going for a tour of a museum/zoo etc.. this would be very helpful.

You're essentially buying yourself some insurance with this strap and $10 is not really that bad on a $500+ camera.

Don't know if I'm using it "right" but I do know that it seems more convenient to me to pass the strap from the camera across the back of my hand and carry the camera that way while being pretty much always ready to swing the camera up to take a quick shot instead of having it dangling from a neck strap and bouncing on my belly. By the way, I'm using it with a Canon Rebel T1I.

I like this product but I do not like the design of it. It comes in plastic packaging with a graphic on the front. When you pull it out there is no simple instructions on the best way to strap this to your camera. Basically you have to figure out what would be the best way - which I did. t would be better if they had an hook attachment instead of a strap attachment for their grip.The base that screws into your tripod mount hole is not the best but when tightened carefully it will suffice. Just take it off when mounting to a tripod as if you try to use this and mount it to a tripod at the same time you may have some loosening which you will have to tighten again and again if you move your tripod around much.

I do not like to have a camera neck strap on the camera (makes me look like a tourist) but this does the job. After getting it secured to my Nikon D90 I could still use my fingers for the shutter release, on/off switch, and use my thumb for the live view button and other tasks that you may need your right hand for. Keep it clean people.

I use this with the Panasonic G1 camera. The only thing that is a slight challenge with this grip is using the pointer-finger "scroll wheel" button thing that the G1 has (it should have been a thumb wheel). Nonetheless, I do like this strap on the camera. It is solid.

"Pleasantly surprised by the quality" 2010-02-26

I picked up this flash here on Amazon due to the price, not being able to afford the Canon 430EX II and 580. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality when I received it. Yes, there are some things - i.e. plastic shoe mount, and the plastic battery holder that are not up to the standards, but I didn't expect more from a $100 flash. It looks massive on my 7D, and adds a little to the weight, but I like how it performs in low light situations that I'm constantly faced with.

I shoot ballroom dancing competitions, and the lights are very bad, making it almost impossible to be able to stop the action. I'm using Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens, and also will be getting a Canon 85mm f/1.8 to complement that.

As far as the features, they're all that you'd expect from a Canon flash. Opteka does have power! You'll be amazed at how it's able to light up the rooms, or bounce off the walls. Make sure that you get some good batteries to go along with it. I decided to go with Sanyo, due to some rave reviews.

To summarize, I think this is a decent piece of equipment, considering what you're paying for it. After playing with it for a day, it greatly improved all of my low light pictures, and now makes things much more easier when working with smaller apertures or fast shutter speeds.

Mine just came in the mail and ive been testing it out all day and it works perfectly with my Canon EOS rebel T1i. the built in diffuser works great and its perfect for bounce photography. like most other reviews yes the battery door does feel very loose...when its open. and i have yet to have any troubles with the batteries everything feels solid and secure and to me its fairly light. it is a great flash for the money, anybody looking to buy a new flash whether you are a beginner or a professional you should definitely invest in this flash, its easy on the wallet and like most opteka products I've used its good quality.

The flash did a decent job. I can now take pictures indoors at night with great lighting. A few complaints:

- flash is heavy. with my canon digital rebel eos xti, it got heavy!! My forearms were really burning after a couple of takes but i'm sure I'd have that with any external flash

- recharge took a while. i had to wait maybe 30 whole seconds before I could take the next one. maybe my battery was low but i only used it for a few takes before i started noticing.

- noisy. while it's recharging, this high pitch noise would stay humming and it can be annoying.

you get what you pay for and i think it was a decent purchase for the price. i'm still going to keep it and maybe keep extra batteries handy.

I was surprised and impressed for $[...] and it does have some nice features. I do believe that there is a design flaw with the battery compartment and the stand did not come with the unit. My Canon XSi did recognize the flash unit and I was able to control some features from the camera's LCD. All-in-all, I was happy with my purchase. Although, periodically, the flash shuts down (for no apparent reason) and the camera doesn't see it. If I reseat the batteries in the EF-600 and boot the camera, then all is well. Recycle time is not as fast as the 430 EX (not II), but it does the job when it works properly (sort-of strange to say it that way).

If Opteka would re-design the battery compartment, this would be a great value for the price. Good for amateurs on a budget, but not for the prosumer. I would spend the extra $$$s and go for the 430EXII

"Almost perfect camera" 2010-02-20

Alright, so I'm not going to go into great detail to why I love this camera. I'll keep it true and short.

My previous camera was the Canon XTi, I loved (and still do love) that camera. As soon as I turned on the LCD to my 7D I was in shock! It's so clear, and the colors from it are incredible. The 7D's LCD is beautiful! <3 It's also built like a tank. I feel secure when little kids ask me if they can take a picture with it now! XD I just tell them to make sure the wear the strap. ;) lol Battery life is WAY better. The 8 FPS is really useful. More useful than I had originally thought. (I do a lot of sports.) Video is great! The built in speaker is...okay, buy the Rode directional mic ($150 bucks,i think) If you'll be doing a lot of video, like me. Okay so now the ISO. It's better than the XTi that's for sure. But, one thing you should know about the this camera is it has a noise reduction feature built into the camera. So It's really not a problem. I take photos in ISO 1000-1600 regularly. You don't really notice the noise until you blowup the image to about 150% It's really not a problem. Just make sure you have the High ISO noise reduction feature enabled. And really, if the picture that you took is that bad that all you notice is the noise, you should really should try to hone your photography skills before buying this camera. The only thing I don't like about the camera is the 18mp. It's really too much on a little 1.6 crop factor camera. 10.mp is perfect for a DSLR. But that's really it. I will never print a picture that big. The biggest I've ever gotten is 8X10. And that's still kinda small.

Okay, that's my review. I suggest this camera to everyone that asks me what camera they should get. So buy it now!...no really, you'll be glad you did.

If you want to save about [..]900 bucks you may want to read this.

I really liked my 7D and its pro-features until Feb 2010 when the new Rebel T2i Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 MP CMOS APS-C Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only) came in the market and made me think about my decision of buying the 7D.

Here is my brief summary/comparison between the new Rebel T2i ([..]) versus the 7D ([..]).

The Rebel has the same features as the 7D such as:

- SAME 18.0 Megapixel CMOS sensor

- SAME ISO 100-6400 (expandable to 12800)

- SAME 63-zone, Dual-layer metering system

- SAME full HD movie capabilities

However the Rebel T2i OUTPERFORMS the 7D in few things:

- BETTER LCD monitor. 1.04 million dots versus the 7D 0.92 million dots

- LESS weight. 18.7 oz./530g versus the 7D 28.9 oz./820g

DOES ONE NEED TO PAY $900 BUCKS MORE FOR THE 7D EXTRA-FEATURES?

- Built-in Speedlite Transmitter (useful if you shoot at a studio- but it costs less than two hundred

- Dust/weather-resistant body (the Rebel is steel body with less sealing)

- 19 point AF system versus 9-point in the new Rebel (This 9 AF system is the same as in the D50. I have had both D50 and 7D and the 10 extra AF points make no much difference when focusing)

- 100% viewfinder versus 95% in the new Rebel

- 8 frames per second versus the Rebel 4 frames per second -the 7D has 2 image processors (unless you're a sports photographer you can't really see the value of this)

I'D SAY THESE NICE FEATURES PROBABLY MAY NOT WORTH IT $900 BUCKS. I'd rather use this money to buy a L quality lens.

I'd have given four stars to the 7D but I think the the new Rebel T2i is going to take them. The two stars is for the resale value of my 7D.

Love everything about it. The sheer volume of functions and capabilities is a little overwhelming at first but after spending some time with the camera and a good book about it, you'll be taking great pictures in no time. It makes great movies too! Just beware that the internal mic will record the sounds of the focus and zoom so you'll want to invest in an external mic. Also, the autofocus really doesn't work in movie mode but I haven't found using the manual focus in movie mode to be an issue. Buy it, you'll love it.

I have owned all of the rebels, and when I heard about the 7D I waited in anticipation. I'm an amature, sort of (I use manual) and found this camera to be the best for what I shoot. My shots come out crisp and this is the first camera I have used that has taken excellent sports photos.

If you are on the market for a new camera and are considering the 5DmkII, or the 7D, I would go with the 7D because of the dual processors and the quality. While it's not full frame like the 5D, the pictures are still up to par with the 5D and there are only minor differences based on all of the reviews I have read on photo websites.

I suggest getting the body and the 18-135 lens as the kit lens that comes with the 7D is not as good as the newer lens.

"Nikon Guy forced to go to Canon for resolution" 2010-02-22

I'm doing a large scale documentation project photographing objects on a copy stand. Was pretty sure I was going to use Nikon bodies as thats what I'm familiar with. I tested several bodies and it came down to a 5d MkII or a D3. I'vee never been a pixel peeper but it was clear that that the added resolution with the 5D made a big difference and it was too ignore. Also it comes with the software you need to tether the camera which is nice. My biggest complaint is the ergonomics, big and clunky. Luckily I don't have to handle too much, because I definitely think Nikons are better in this regard. Also Canon's RAW format is less proprietary than Nikon's which does make a big difference to me.

The DIGIC 4 processor blows pretty much every other camera out of the water. It displays ISO 3200 with the amount of noise of a ISO 800 shot on the older DIGIC 2 & 3 models (ISO 1600 looks like ISO 640). The detail you get out of a 21.1 MP image is unbelievable... My only warning is to get a big memory card. If you are shooting in RAW, you're looking at 25-30MB per picture (10MB in JPEG). I get about 430 shots out of a 12.0GB card in RAW. Also, the RAW files can't read in many RAW reading programs, so you'll need Adobe DNG Converter (free at Adobe's site) or Adobe CS4.

Combine this camera with a low f-stop lens and you're in for a real treat.

I have used and own Nikon and Canon DSLR cameras for the last 5 years, from Nikon D40, Nikon D70, Canon 40D, Canon 50D and finally bought myself a full frame camera from Canon 5D Mark II. I can't be happier.... I love how I could do micro adjustments on my lenses, and love it that it captures the HD videos. It has been my professional work camera for the last 6 months and I like the results. It really stands up with the 24-105 lens and 80 f1.5 for portrait. I have the 70-200 F4 L IS with it, but I like it better with 24-105 and 80 1.5

This camera has been a blessing. I just wished Canon has the on/off switches near the click button... just like Nikon. Other than that, I love this camera!
